Brooke Shields will join the cast of The Addams Family as Morticia on June 28 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Current star Bebe Neuwirth will play her final performance on June 26.
"I am delighted to be joining The Addams Family this summer," Shields said in a statement. "When the producers asked me to come see the show a few months ago, I found it to be wonderfully entertaining, funny, clever and even touching, and I knew immediately that I wanted to be the next Morticia, following the amazing Bebe Neuwirth. I can’t wait to join Roger [Rees as Gomez] and the wonderful cast."
Shields' Broadway credits include Wonderful Town, Chicago, Cabaret and Grease. She recently starred opposite Raul Esparza in Leap of Faith in Los Angeles and performed a solo cabaret show, In My Life, at Feinstein's at Loews Regency. Her many TV and film credits include Suddenly Susan, Lipstick Jungle, That '70s Show, Nip/Tuck and The Blue Lagoon.
Inspired by the popular comic series, The Addams Family follows the bizarre crew as their daughter Wednesday brings home a "normal" boyfriend and his midwestern parents for dinner. The show currently stars Roger Rees as Gomez, Jackie Hoffman as Grandma, Brad Oscar as Uncle Fester, Rachel Potter as Wednesday, Adam Riegler as Pugsley, Heidi Blickenstaff as Alice Beineke, Jesse Swenson as Luke Beineke, Adam Grupper as Mal Beineke and Zachary James as Lurch. The musical opened on April 8, 2010.
